Hon. Baba Jamal Opens East Ayawaso MP Constituency Office, Highlights Key Achievements in First Five Months

East Ayawaso, Thursday, 13th August 2026 – The Member of Parliament for East Ayawaso, Hon. Baba Jamal M.A., Esq., has officially opened his constituency office, describing the occasion as an important step towards strengthening engagement with constituents and providing a dedicated platform for addressing their concerns. The opening ceremony was graced by the Majority Chief Whip of Parliament and Member of Parliament for South Dayi, Hon. Rockson-Nelson Dafeamekpor, who served as the Special Guest of Honour. Also present were traditional leaders and chiefs, the Municipal Chief Executive for Ayawaso East, Hon. Abdul Ganiyu Ibrahim, NDC constituency executives, NDC ward coordinators, representatives of the NPP constituency leadership, Assembly Members, and other stakeholders from across the constituency. MP Highlights First Five Months in Office Addressing the gathering, Hon. Baba Jamal used the occasion to highlight some of the major initiatives and development interventions he has pursued since assuming office. He announced that he had successfully concluded discussions with the Minister for Tourism, Culture, and Creative Arts, Hon. Dzifa Gomashie, towards securing land for the construction of a befitting Municipal Assembly facility for Ayawaso East. On roads, the MP expressed appreciation to H.E. John Dramani Mahama and the Minister for Roads and Highways, Hon. Governs Kwame Agbodza, for their support towards ongoing road development in the constituency. He noted that construction works are currently ongoing on the Nima Highway and inner roads, with several roads and streets across Nima earmarked for asphaltic works. In the area of education, Hon. Baba Jamal highlighted the emerging partnership with MountCrest University College to expand access to tertiary education for young people from East Ayawaso. He explained that through the arrangement, 50 percent of the available scholarship opportunities will be allocated to people from East Ayawaso, comprising 25 percent fully funded scholarships and 25 percent scholarships at a subsidized rate. The MP described the initiative as part of his broader commitment to using education as a tool to transform the lives of young people and change the socio-economic narrative of the constituency. 24-Hour Economy Market and Underground Car Park Hon. Baba Jamal further announced that, with the support of H.E. John Dramani Mahama and the Minister for Local Government, Chieftaincy, and Religious Affairs, Hon. Ahmed Ibrahim, Ayawaso East is set to benefit from a 24-hour economy market. He disclosed that he had also successfully lobbied for an underground car park to be incorporated into the project, which, according to him, would make the facility unique among markets in Ghana. The MP said the proposed development would help improve trading conditions, enhance the organization of commercial activities, and provide additional infrastructure for traders and residents. New Senior High School for Nima On education infrastructure, Hon. Baba Jamal expressed appreciation to H.E. John Dramani Mahama and the Minister for Education, Hon. Haruna Iddrisu, for the planned construction of a new senior high school in Nima. He said the project would provide additional opportunities for young people within the constituency to access secondary education closer to their communities. Health Infrastructure In the health sector, the MP highlighted the upgrading of the Nima Polyclinic, including the establishment of a new dental unit. He further announced that a dialysis machine has been secured for the facility, which he said would contribute to expanding the range of specialized health services available to residents. Improved Security Infrastructure Hon. Baba Jamal also highlighted developments in the security sector, announcing that the Nima Police Station is receiving a newly constructed Domestic Violence and Victim Support Unit (DOVVSU) office, a facility he noted the station did not previously have. He said the intervention would strengthen the capacity of the police to provide specialized support to victims of domestic violence and related cases. "Nima Has Been Backward for Too Long" Speaking about his vision for the constituency, Hon. Baba Jamal said: "Nima has been backward for too long. Where others are walking, we should be running. Where others are crawling, we should be walking." He acknowledged that the constituency continues to face challenges, including access to potable water, and disclosed that discussions are ongoing with the Ghana Water Company towards improving water supply to communities across East Ayawaso. The MP expressed confidence that, Insha Allah, the various projects and interventions currently being pursued would see significant progress and, where possible, be realized within the year. Tribute to Former MPs Hon. Baba Jamal also used the occasion to pay tribute to former Members of Parliament who served the constituency, stressing that his administration was not seeking to erase the contributions of previous representatives. He stated: "All past MPs paved the way for me. Ayawaso East is one of the few constituencies without any living former MP. Our very first MP since 1992 was Alhaji Yahaya Kano, then Dr. Farouk Braimah, Dr. Mustapha Ahmed, and my immediate predecessor, Hon. Nasir Toure. May Allah rest their souls. All of them did their part, and nobody can say they did nothing." He emphasized that his focus was not to discredit previous administrations but to build on the foundation they had laid. "I am not here to discredit anyone. Whatever I have mentioned in terms of infrastructure, education, and security are my personal initiatives that I started myself, and Insha Allah I will see them to the end." Commitment to Working with All Stakeholders Hon. Baba Jamal commended the Municipal Chief Executive, Hon. Abdul Ganiyu Ibrahim, for what he described as his full cooperation and also expressed appreciation to the constituency executives for their support. He further acknowledged the support and prayers of the chiefs and representatives of the various ethnic communities within the constituency. Declaring his commitment to an open and inclusive approach to governance, the MP stated: "I am here to work. Anybody who wants to work with us is welcome." He added that his administration would remain focused on delivering development and would not allow unnecessary obstacles to derail the work. "The train is moving. He thanked the chiefs and tribal representatives for their cooperation, prayers, and support, noting that their partnership remains important to the progress of the constituency. Majority Chief Whip Commends Hon. Baba Jamal The Special Guest of Honour, Hon. Rockson-Nelson Dafeamekpor, Majority Chief Whip of Parliament and MP for South Dayi, delivered a keynote address in which he took the gathering through aspects of the history and development of Nima. Hon. Dafeamekpor, who identified himself as an indigene of Mamobi, recalled the major road development undertaken in the area during the administration of the late former President Jerry John Rawlings, particularly the construction of roads in Nima, Kawukudi and Kanda 441. He observed that, since those interventions in the early 1990s, the constituency had not witnessed another comparable transformative infrastructure intervention on that scale until the emergence of Hon. Baba Jamal as Member of Parliament. He therefore described Hon. Baba Jamal as the right person for the job and encouraged constituents to support his efforts to transform the constituency. Hon. Dafeamekpor also spoke about Hon. Baba Jamal's long history of political engagement, recalling that the MP was already active in national politics during his time at the University of Ghana, when they were still young students in Mamobi. He said the opening of the constituency office was particularly important because it would provide a permanent avenue through which constituents could engage their MP and seek assistance in areas including healthcare, education, and support for market women. The Majority Chief Whip further emphasized that although constituents belong to different political parties, Hon. Baba Jamal had made it clear that he was the Member of Parliament for everyone, irrespective of political affiliation.
