Hon. Baba Jamal Pays Courtesy Visit to ECG Roman Ridge District Office

Ayawaso East Constituency, Tuesday, 26th May 2026 – The Member of Parliament for Ayawaso East, Hon. Baba Jamal M.A., Esq., paid a courtesy visit to the Roman Ridge District Office of the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) as part of his ongoing institutional engagement tour aimed at fostering stronger partnerships with key public institutions serving the constituency. The Member of Parliament was accompanied by the MP Health Coordinator, Mr. Musah Ali; the Research Officer, Mr. Zenifar Bernard; and the Assembly Member for the Nima 441 Electoral Area, Hon. Baba Alhaji. The delegation was warmly received by the District Manager, Mrs. Emma Kwofie, together with members of the district management team, including the District Human Resource Officer, District Engineer, District Accountant, Billing Officer, IT/Metering Manager, and the Regional Communication Officer. In her welcome address, the District Manager described the visit as historic, noting that it was the first official visit by a Member of Parliament to the Roman Ridge District ECG Office. She commended Hon. Baba Jamal for his proactive engagement with institutions within the constituency and acknowledged the importance of strengthening collaboration between Parliament and public service institutions. Management further informed the delegation that incidents involving attacks and threats against ECG personnel during fault repairs and the disconnection of illegal electricity connections in parts of Nima had significantly reduced. They attributed the improvement to effective collaboration with the Assembly and sustained community engagement initiatives. The management team also highlighted a number of operational challenges affecting electricity service delivery within the district. These included illegal electricity connections, power outages resulting from overloaded distribution systems, difficulties accessing certain communities during social and traditional ceremonies due to road blockages, inadequate maintenance of streetlights, and the need for continuous public education on electricity safety, bill payment and ECG operations. Responding to the concerns raised, Hon. Baba Jamal reiterated that the purpose of his institutional visits is to build stronger working relationships with organisations operating within Ayawaso East in order to improve service delivery to constituents. He once again described Ayawaso East as the "Star Constituency," citing its strategic importance as home to several major national institutions and landmarks. The Member of Parliament expressed satisfaction with the positive reports regarding improvements within the Nima community and assured the management of ECG that his office remains committed to supporting the company whenever necessary to address challenges affecting residents. During the engagement, Hon. Baba Jamal recommended the adoption of photocell technology to improve the efficient management of street lighting, encouraged stronger collaboration between ECG and Assembly Members to deepen community engagement, and urged the company to intensify public education on its operations and customer responsibilities. He also discussed possible interventions to improve access roads and create emergency corridors within densely populated communities to facilitate the work of emergency and utility service providers. As part of the engagement, the ECG Regional Communication Officer educated the delegation on measures to help residents identify genuine ECG personnel and avoid fraudsters. The delegation was informed that members of the public can verify the identity of ECG staff by using the shortcode 226#. The visit concluded with both parties reaffirming their commitment to strengthening cooperation and working together to improve electricity service delivery, enhance public education and address operational challenges for the benefit of the people of Ayawaso East.
