Hon. Baba Jamal Commissions One Million Coders Training Centre at Nima-Mamobi Library

Nima, Tuesday, 29th July 2026 – The Member of Parliament for Ayawaso East, Hon. Baba Jamal M.A., Esq., has officially commissioned the One Million Coders Training Centre at the Nima-Mamobi Library, providing a dedicated digital learning facility for beneficiaries of the Government of Ghana's flagship digital skills programme within the constituency. The commissioning ceremony was attended by Madam Kathy Knowles, the Canadian philanthropist whose generous support led to the establishment of the Nima-Mamobi Library, the Municipal Chief Executive for Ayawaso East, Mr. Abdul Ganiyu Ibrahim, the Ayawaso East Constituency Coordinator for the One Million Coders Programme, Mr. Fawaz Kassim Basha, constituency executives of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), community leaders and residents. The establishment of the training centre forms part of H.E. John Dramani Mahama's vision of empowering one million Ghanaians with practical digital and coding skills to enhance employability, encourage entrepreneurship and prepare young people for opportunities within Ghana's rapidly growing digital economy. Before relocating the project to the library, Hon. Baba Jamal had undertaken the complete renovation of the ICT laboratory at St. Kizito Junior High School in Nima after the facility was initially identified as the constituency's training centre. The renovation works included painting the laboratory, installing two air conditioners, repairing doors and cupboards, fitting curtains and purchasing 50 chairs to prepare the facility for the programme. However, before the centre could be commissioned, the school authorities indicated that the ICT laboratory could only be used by students of the school and could not be opened to members of the public. To ensure that Ayawaso East did not lose the opportunity to participate in the One Million Coders Programme, the Member of Parliament immediately identified an alternative location at the Nima-Mamobi Library. The office space within the library was subsequently transformed into a modern digital training centre through extensive renovation works, including the installation of a new ceiling, painting of the facility, installation of air conditioners, construction of wall-mounted computer workstations, provision of chairs and partitioning of the available space to create a dedicated training room and administrative office. The completed facility now accommodates 33 laptop workstations, providing a conducive learning environment for programme beneficiaries. Addressing participants at the commissioning ceremony, Hon. Baba Jamal encouraged beneficiaries to fully embrace the opportunity by dedicating themselves to learning practical digital skills that would improve their employment prospects, stimulate innovation and entrepreneurship, and enable them to compete successfully in the digital economy. He noted that investing in the digital empowerment of young people remains one of the surest pathways to sustainable economic development and reaffirmed his commitment to supporting initiatives that expand educational and technological opportunities for the youth of Ayawaso East. The commissioning of the One Million Coders Training Centre represents another significant milestone in the constituency's efforts to bridge the digital divide and create opportunities for young people to acquire relevant twenty-first century skills. Through the partnership between the Government of Ghana and the Office of the Member of Parliament, beneficiaries in Ayawaso East now have access to a modern training facility where they can develop the knowledge and competencies needed to thrive in today's technology-driven world.
